How to Get Your Lawn Out of the Mud

It can be incredibly frustrating to have a lawn that is constantly muddy and filled with holes. If your lawn is experiencing this issue, you’re probably wondering what you can do to get it back in shape this spring. The good news ArborLawn is here to restore your lawn and make sure it stays healthy going forward. Read on for our top tips on getting your lawn out of the mud!

Aerate Your Lawn

Aeration helps to loosen compacted soil, allowing more air and moisture to reach the roots of your grass. This process will also help improve drainage, which is especially important if you’re dealing with a muddy lawn due to sparse turf. In the spring, aeration is one of the most critical lawn care steps to get lawns ready for new growth. It also helps wake dormant grass from its winter slumber.

Add Topsoil and Compost

Adding topsoil and compost can help restore any areas of your lawn that have been damaged by excess water, snow, ice, or other factors. Adding more organic matter will also help improve nutrient levels and soil structure, encouraging stronger root growth and better drainage. You may want to consider adding a topdressing of sand as well for extra drainage benefits.

Fertilize Regularly

Fertilizing regularly throughout the year is essential for keeping your lawn looking its best all season long. Fertilizer helps promote strong root systems and lush, green turf while also providing essential nutrients that keep weeds at bay. If you’re not sure when to fertilize or which formula to use, make sure you ask the ArborLawn team.

Plant Grass Seed

If you’re dealing with large areas of mud or bald patches in your yard, planting grass seed may be necessary for restoring those spots fully. Be sure to plant the right kind of seed for the climate you live in, as some varieties are better suited for warmer climates while others thrive in cooler temperatures. Also, use a quality soil amendment when planting, if possible. With regular watering and fertilization, these spots should fill in quickly!
