Grub Control

3 Signs You Have Lawn Grubs

Grub season is right around the corner, and you need to be prepared. Lawn grubs, also known as white grubs, are the larvae stage of various beetle species and insects. While healthier grass can usually withstand the feeding frenzy of grubs, others aren’t so lucky. Thankfully, the team at ArborLawn can help with grub treatment, and it usually starts in mid-June to late July. If you begin to notice any of these symptoms in your lawn, you have lawn grubs.

1. Dry, Grey Turf

Lawn grubs feast on the roots of your lawn, which can give your lawn a dry, drought-like appearance. Homeowners often mistaken their grub infestation with a lawn that needs to be watered, but that won’t fix the problem. Unfortunately, the roots have already been eaten away, so the blades will struggle to absorb the water. While your lawn may temporarily bounce back, you could find yourself in an endless battle, no matter how much water you give your yard.

2. Irregular Dead Patches

When grubs go untreated, they can quickly destroy your lawn, leaving you with irregular, yellow dead patches. These patches could even be spongy in nature, and the turf rolls back easily like carpet. If you can do this with any patches in your lawn, you have grubs. If you continue to leave your grass untreated, you’ll spend more money on sod replacement than you would have in regular, safe grub treatment.

3. Rapidly Wilting Grass

If you notice that your grass wilts quickly in the heat of the afternoon, you probably have grubs eating away at the roots. Without roots, your grass blades can’t absorb water and nutrients found deep within the soil. This leaves you with very brittle, vulnerable grass blades that lack moisture and can’t withstand the heat of the sun.
